SES Safety Initiatives
Safety is very important to everyone here at SES. Here is a list of our current safety initiatives.
Safety Committee
One of the standing committees in the SES leadership structure is the Safety Committee. This committee meets each year at the annual conference and gives a report to the Board of Directors on their activities throughout the past year. If you are interested in volunteering for the committee, please contact the Safety Committee Chair, Tommy Leach, at stillwaterselfbows@gmail.com.
Safety Handbook
In the mid-2000’s, the SES Safety Committee worked together to produce a Safety Guideline Handbook. The second edition of this handbook is available for download on our website here. The handbook is currently being reviewed by the committee and they hope to have a third edition produced by the end of 2025.
Safety Shorts at the SSSAAP Conference
At each year’s SSSAAP conference, we recognize the inherent dangers associated with the stack testing industry and recognize the importance of safety by incorporating a 5-minute safety discussion into each of the 10 sessions. The Safety Shorts present thought- provoking safety lessons, tips, tricks, reminders, suggestions, experiences, ideas, and nightmares. This 10-part session is intended for us to share ways to weave safety into our work habits.
Safety T-Shirt
Each year the Safety Committee organizes a design competition and recruits sponsors to produce a safety-themed T-shirt to distribute to attendees of our annual conference. An email is sent out to SES members each fall seeking designs for next year’s T-shirt. The winner’s company receives their company’s logo placement on the back of the T-shirt at no charge. Contributions from the T-shirt sponsors make distribution of the T-shirt possible without added cost to conference registrants.
The Matt DeVito Award
SES sponsors a business integrity award at each year’s annual conference. The Matt DeVito award, in honor of a fallen comrade, is presented to individuals who represent the highest standards of business integrity, measurement data quality, and concern for safety in the workplace. The award is decided by a special committee after reviewing nominations. Matt DeVito was a long-time member of SES, past-president, and a staunch advocate for the highest quality products and work practices.
